If there is one festival that workers at Goldenseams feel very passionate about, it's none other than Dussehra. For those who may not know, Dussehra is a Hindu festival that celebrates the victory of good over evil. It is observed on the tenth day of the Hindu month of Ashvin, which typically falls in September or October on the Gregorian calendar. Dussehra is also known as Vijayadashami, which means "the tenth day of victory" in Sanskrit.
In addition to its religious significance, Dussehra is also an important cultural event in India. It is celebrated with great enthusiasm, and people participate in various activities such as parades, dramas, and plays. In many places, Dussehra is also celebrated as a harvest festival, and people give thanks for the good harvest and pray for continued prosperity.
At Goldenseams, we celebrate Dussehra with our workers by having a religious and cultural celebration. We offer our prayers at the temple and that is followed up with a bunch of activities for the workers. This year in particular, events hosted on the day included dance-offs amongst workers, an award ceremony for those workers that stood out in the preceding months to the festival and a worker singing contest.
